A Yoga Lifestyle Calls for Organic Yoga Apparel

Yoga is the spiritual art of rejuvenation, it was originated in India and has been practiced in various forms there, and elsewhere, for thousands of years. Yoga has translated from generation to generation so well because of its inherent healing abilities. Known to cure disease, it is also used worldwide to heal both the physical and mental body. Yoga, when practiced safely and correctly, relieves tension and brings balance and harmony back into the body.
Yoga has become so popular worldwide these days that yogi's - its practitioners - have begun to refer to their way of life as a "yoga lifestyle". Yoga lifestyle refers to a conscious way of living in every facet of life - from a daily practice to purchasing consciously made food and clothing. Organic yoga apparel is an entire category of consciously grown and produced clothing that caters to this lifestyle demographic. Typically made from organic cotton and other natural materials, organic yoga apparel is grown without the use of harmful pesticides and then milled, woven, dyed and sewn in ethical labor conditions.
Yoga clothing brands have become very popular for creating conscious clothing for the yogi lifestyle demographic while ensuring that the yoga clothing is both fashionable and functional. In addition to the conscious way in which they're made, yoga clothes are unique for the way they drape on the body, ensuring that the wearer retains maximum mobility during their practice. Organic yoga apparel has the added benefit of being hypoallergenic and will not cause skin irritation or discomfort the way that conventional sports clothing made from synthetics will.
Hot yoga clothing is a category that has evolved out of the organic yoga apparel market. Hot yoga is often done in rooms where the temperature exceeds 40° celsius so hot yoga clothing typically covers less of the body and must wick away moisture in an efficient manner. Thankfully, organic cotton wicks moisture as well as any synthetic in the market.
There are many yoga clothing brands that go beyond clothing to provide beautiful accessories such as yoga shawls and headbands. It's not uncommon to find a brand that makes yoga headbands, shawls, shirts, pants, shorts and tops, all made from organic cotton and other natural materials. Style and fashion have become increasingly common with organic clothing as big retailers like Nike and h&m shift their production lines to cater to the growing yogi lifestyle market who demand organic cotton clothing and accessories.
Yoga lifestyle may be a recent term but with yoga having existed for thousands of years, it is likely a term that is here to stay.
Kooshoo.com provides functional and organic yoga clothes, head bands, hair ties, organic yoga apparels and more. Kooshoo offers a wide range of organic yoga clothing and head bands by all top yoga clothing brands.

Seven Health Tips to Remember

Our society depends on the caregivers in homes, schools, health care facilities, and elsewhere. Often the classic profile of a dedicated caregiver is a person who puts others before him/herself. For these special people the concept of "Taking care of #1" first seems selfish and alien to them.
It is for all of you wonderful caregivers that I offer the following tips for staying healthy:
1. As you set up the daily or weekly family schedules, make sure that you give yourself 15-30 minutes per day of private time. This is good for grounding, meditating, meridian-tapping, soaking in a tub, de-stressing, or providing special self nurturing time, and is necessary if you want to stay in balance and health.
2. Plan to get at least seven hours of sleep per night so that your body can revitalize, digest completely, and nourish your cells. This is beneficial to your metabolism, your attitude, and also will keep you from feeling hungry all day.
3. If you can set aside 15-30 minutes per day to exercise, this is optimal, and if not, then make sure you park far from each destination and take stairs rather than elevators in order to walk more during each day. While walking breath deeply and if possible swing your arms - raising the opposite arm to the foot that is stepping out.
4. Now look at your diet. What may be good for your children, spouse, or patient may not be good for you. Listen to your body. Feed it what it needs and no more, and try to balance each meal with 75% fruits and vegetables, and 25% meat, dairy, grains, nuts.
5. Also be conscious of food combining as you create menus: Protein + Vegetables / Starch + Vegetables / Fruit + Vegetables, and try not to use other combinations if possible. This supports your body to claim energy and nutrients without expending all of that energy in the digestion process.
6. Listen to your inner voice. Is it constantly judging or criticizing? If so, then consciously turn down the volume and replace each negative with a positive. Tap over your heart area between your breasts as you focus on changing your inner messages. Look for good things to say to yourself and celebrate when you do something well.
7. Finally, end each day by listing five or more things in your life for which you are grateful. Make a statement such as: "I am grateful for ___ because ____. You may tap on the side of your hand or over your heart while focusing on these, as this process sets up a higher vibration for your subconscious just before you drift off into the sleep and dream state.
Enjoy life and health because if you ignore it, it will go away!

How Yoga Will Promote Weight Loss

If you are battling with weight gain or obesity due to unhealthy eating habits or lack of sufficient exercise, then yoga should be of interest to you. It is possible to lose weight as well as to relax by engaging in yoga. Yoga will strengthen your core, tone you up and increase your flexibility with the various poses, techniques and diets. Here is a look at a plethora of ways in which yoga can lead to weight loss.
Yogic poses (asanas)
These poses are geared towards fitting your health needs and age. A yoga instructor keeps in mind your health issues before prescribing certain yogic poses that may help you lose weight effectively. These asanas include sun salutation, shoulder stand, fish, wheel and bird poses, triangle poses among others. In addition, these poses help to check weight gain due to hormonal imbalance as well as allow the endocrine glands to run smoothly. The immune system is strengthened and indigestion and allergies are reduced by these yoga poses.
Yogic techniques
The Prana Shakti is a very effective and ancient method of balancing one's weight. This technique is void of physical movements but deals with the invocation of the life force called Prana through breath. The Prana converts into heat that burns fat and consequently weight loss. Mastering this technique takes only a few weeks of practice.
Yogic diets
Postures, poses and techniques work hand in hand with the yogic diets to lose weight effectively. Healthy eating habits, detoxifying frequently and avoiding junk and sugary foods, while eating a balanced yogic diet with lots of water intake are a must if you want to lose weight. Yoga alters your taste of food naturally, without deprivation or any effort. Yoga helps you to be in touch with your body and hence get to refrain from energy draining foods or sugars. Yoga will help you eat in a healthy manner leading to weight loss and consequently better health.
Positive mental attitude
Accepting that you have weight issues that need attention is the first step to the weight loss journey. Changing your attitude towards exercise and healthy diets in relation to your desired weight is of importance. Yoga allows for holistic thinking that integrates the whole person. It requires the presence of the body, mind, spirit and heart to have a unified way of living and a new positive attitude. This naturally controls your emotional, physical and spiritual needs and hence you are able to say no to overfeeding, laziness and poor feeding habits without strain and be on the path of losing weight.
Yoga motions
First timers who intend to lose weight should partake yoga but at small steps. Start small and grow with practice until you can withstand intense activities or poses. The intensity and aggressiveness of the superior yoga movements, act as workouts that lead to weight loss but should be carried out with care and under an instructor.
Certainly, yoga is one of the best ways to lose weight smartly and as a long term measure. You do not have to force your body to accept certain crash diets or hectic exercises but in the relaxing and meditative poses, techniques, diets, motions, and attitude change, weight loss is achievable.

Health Tips for Women of all Ages

there are many health issues that women should be aware of and they should be taking preventative measures to avoid. Many of these issues are specifically woman-centered, such as ovarian, cervical, and endometrial cancers. However, women also make up more than half of Alzheimer's patients, approximately 3.4 million out of 5.4 million Americans living with this disease. Helping women to know the risks and symptoms of certain woman-specific diseases, as well as preventative and treatment options, is important.
The big cancers that can affect women are uterine cancers: cervical, ovarian, and endometrial. Breast cancer also primarily affects women, though there are cases of male patients diagnosed with breast cancer. These cancers, for the most part, can be prevented, but sometimes your family history is enough to cause the disease.
Cervical cancer can be caught early if you are regularly going to your gynecologist for a pap smear. You should also consider quitting smoking if you do smoke, or avoiding secondhand smoke if you do not. Cigarettes have been linked to the development of many cancers, and besides the obvious ones like lung and mouth cancer, they do also cause cervical cancer. You may want to consider also getting the HPV vaccine if you are under 27 years of age.
Ovarian cancer is one of the more frustrating diseases to diagnose because there are no effective screening tests and no one really knows what causes it. Taking Fenretidine, which is a synthetic form of Vitamin A, might help to protect women against ovarian cancer as well as breast cancer, but there are not enough scientific studies that prove this to be an absolute. Your best bet, sadly, is to have your ovaries surgically removed. This may not rule out your chances of getting ovarian cancer entirely, but it is the most commonly recommended solution for patients who are high risk because of their family history.
Endometrial cancer's cause is also unknown, and unfortunately, this is also the most common type of cancer within the uterine area. High levels of estrogen seem to be a factor in whether a woman develops this disease. Also, if you have diabetes, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), have never been pregnant, or are infertile, your risk factor increases. To help prevent endometrial cancer, you should try exercising, changing your diet to introduce soy-based foods, and if you still are able, getting pregnant and breastfeeding.
Alzheimer's disease is a sad and difficult disease to deal with. Imagine losing your memories of those you love. It can be upsetting to know there may be nothing you can do to prevent its onset; thankfully, there are a few things that may help. Regular exercise 5 times a week for at least 30 minutes can diminish your risk factor. You should also consider changing your diet to include heart-healthy foods such as salmon and tuna, and excluding red meat and fried foods. Try adding in a few cups of green or white tea as well. Getting a quality amount of sleep is beneficial in all cases, but most especially when attempting to prevent Alzheimer's. Work on reducing stress in all areas of your life, and stay as active as possible.

How to Start Practicing Yoga From Home

If you haven't done it before, simply immersing yourself in a yoga home routine in womens tights for yoga isn't as easy as it looks. It can be a challenge for a beginner, not only in figuring out what kind of sequence of poses to do, but to also establish a routine.
In order to gently immerse yourself into a yoga home practice, you'll have to do a little bit of homework to lay the groundwork before throwing yourself into things. There are several ways you can prepare yourself and ease yourself into a yoga home routine.
Accommodate Your Yoga Space
Before you can do yoga, you'll have to figure out where to do it. Although you don't need a lot of space to do yoga, you should be able to set aside a place that is dedicated to the practice. Wherever you designate your yoga space, it should be clean and free of furniture or other hazards. If you want, you can decorate the space to add an aura of serenity to the place and really get you into your yoga practice.
Get the Necessary Materials
Although you may believe that yoga only uses your body, there are several items you should have to start off your yoga routine right.
  • A yoga sticky mat. With its non-slip surface will ensure a safe and comfortable yoga workout. Most sticky mats are machine washable, and it's recommended to wash it before your first use, as it might be too "slick" when it's brand-new.
  • Foam blocks and straps. These help you modify poses. These can be especially useful beginners or those not quite in shape, as it allows you to extend further during stretches.
  • Yoga blanket. Although this one is optional, it's nice to have one to keep you comfortable during the more meditative savasanas. When rolled up, yoga blankets can also serve as bolsters in certain poses.
Safety Measures
Even with low-impact workouts like yoga, there's a risk of injury if you don't perform it right. It's therefore your responsibility to ensure your safety during your yoga routine. Here are a few tips to keep you safe:
  • Make sure your space is clear of any furniture, obstacles or hazards.
  • Perform yoga on a mat on a hardwood floor. Soft carpeting could make you lose your balance and could be hard on your joints.
  • Never force yourself into poses that are too difficult for your skill level or painful. Warm up before getting into yoga poses. If you want to get into more difficult poses, it should be under the supervision of a yoga instructor.

The Most Essential Beauty Treatments

Beauty treatments constitute a huge industry, and for first-timers it can certainly seem just a bit exclusive. There are hundreds of different treatments out there, made even more confusing by being separated by brand. Then there's treatments which deal with extremely small areas compared to those offering very general results. For a newcomer it can all seem more than a touch confusing, so here are some must-try treatments to start you off.
Massage and Aromatherapy
These two often get packaged together, so there's no harm in linking them here. Massage is mainly a way of relieving stress and muscle tension, but this carries a number of benefits in and of itself. You'll get a sturdier immune system, less propensity for anxiety and depression, and a more comfortable sleep at night.
All in all, these treatments are there to relax you and be enjoyed. They don't alter your body, though they do rejuvenate it and give you a far more rested and confident disposure. We all know that something like that can make all the difference, so it's no wonder most spas and salons offer this.
Hair Removal
Unwanted hair is the bane of many a woman's existence, especially for those who aren't fortunate enough to be blonde. Applying hot wax strips at home can just get stressful, and there's plenty of salons out there offering very comprehensive treatments.
Wax strips? Laser treatment? Threading? These are all popular methods, and can be carried out as painlessly as possible by a professional. They'll be able to offer you some long term results for this common problem with plenty of variety in how you get it done. If you're looking for a treatment to get you started, this is certainly one of the most common.
Facials
Get a nice deep clean in your pores, scrub off any dead skin and keep your face pleasant and hydrated. A facial can truly reap some amazing results for a surprisingly quick treatment, and it's a relaxing one to boot.
Book one now and you'll have a professional identifying your skin type and the best substances to apply to it. These treatments are a great way to draw attention to your natural beauty with a rejuvenated appearance, so don't be put off by the chemicals.
Hands and Feed
We are, of course, referring to pedicures and manicures. You can expect to have a pumice taken to remove dead skin from your feet, or even get fish to eat it if you're in a pricier area (it tickles, but isn't as unpleasant as it sounds!). Having your nails trimmed and polished is a quick way to add a little more colour and sharpness to your appearance, so this is another great way to get started on treatments.
The most essential beauty treatments are the basics for professionals like Charlotte Palmer. Alongside this information it's important to know where to buy the best electric beauty couches for beauticians, as a bad couch will lead to no customer satisfaction.

Skin Care for the Changing Seasons

How to take care of my skin in changing seasons
Just like nature, our skin changes with the rhythms of the seasons. It reacts to the humidity levels, UV rays, wind, cold and heat. It is exposed to dust, dirt and pollution on a daily basis.
Your skin continuously produces sebum (oils) and sweat. The skin also constantly generates new skin cells at the lower layer (the dermis) and sends them to the surface (the epidermis). As the cells rise to the surface they gradually die and become filled with keratin. These keratinized skin cells are essential because they give our skin its protective quality. But they are constantly sloughing off to make way for younger cells. As we age the process of cell turnover slows down. Cells start to build up unevenly on the skin's surface, giving it a dry, rough, dull appearance.
One of the key benefits to regular professional facials is to help you reveal healthier more radiant skin. Exfoliation delivers a tighter, firmer, smoother look and feel of skin.
1. Why exfoliate?
When done correctly, exfoliation is an important part of both facial and body treatments to leave the skin feeling smoother and fresher looking. Exfoliation removes the oldest dead skin cells that cling to the skin's outermost surface (epidermis). It stimulates the production of new skin cells and collagen and makes it easier for facial products like serums and lotions to penetrate.
Mechanical Exfoliation. The dead skin cells are physically rubbed off with an abrasive. Examples of mechanical exfoliation include
  • Scrubs (with sugar, salts, coffee grinds or seeds) should use small, round, gentle abrasives like jojoba beads. Stay away from something harsh like apricot scrubs, which can cause micro-tears in your skin.

  • Rub-off cream (gommage mechanical peel) that you apply in a thin layer, let dry for a few minutes, then rub the product off and it takes the dead skin with it.

  • Brush (rotary bristles)
2. Common types of exfoliation
Microdermabrasion is a process that is achieved by using a highly controlled spray of fine micro-crystals under pressure and vacuum. It is also available in crystal-free, or diamond-tip. Most effective as a series of 4-6 treatments, this procedure acts to remove the outermost layer of skin by a gentle abrasion or a polishing type process. (feels very similar to a rough cat's tongue) Microdermabrasion is effective in reducing fine lines, fine crow's feet, mild age spots and superficial acne scars and acne marks.
Chemical Peels. These provide a deep detoxifying and cleansing effect without being overly irritating to most skin types. This treatment stimulates blood circulation and renews the cellular systems to help brighten and clarify your complexion. Results have shown that long-term use of chemical peels encourages the stimulation of collagen growth in the skin, which slows the development of lines, wrinkles and sagging skin
Types of Chemical Peels. Enzymes (biological or herbal), alphahydroxy acids (AHAs) or betahydroxy acids (BHAS) loosen the glue-like substance that holds the cells together, allowing them to slough away. These facial peels are a form of chemical exfoliation. Chemical peels can either be very gentle or very aggressive, depending on how the strong the peel is. Body treatments might use mild chemical exfoliants like pineapple enzymes.
3. What you need to know about exfoliation
Over-exfoliation triggers the inflammatory response, leading to a compromised lipid barrier that won't function properly, a sensitized skin condition, and accelerated premature aging.
  • Talk to a good esthetician about the product and frequency that is best for your skin. Be extra careful when exfoliating delicate skin of your face. It's easy to over-exfoliate.

  • Over use of peels can remove too much of your protective layer and end up exposing the living dermis.

  • Microdermabrasion can make thin, aging skin even thinner if you get too many treatments too quickly.

  • Avoid the sun after microdermabrasion or peels.

  • Never use body scrubs on the face. They're too rough.

  • Never wax if you've had a peel recently. It might expose raw, living skin, which will have to scab over to heal.
4. How often should you get a facial?
It is recommended that you get a facial with each change of season, or every three months or so. Your skin reacts to the changing seasons and it is important to ensure that you are continuing to use products appropriate for what your skin is requiring. For example, when the season gets colder, you will notice changes in your skin as well. Oily skin may become more normal, or those normal skin types might feel their skin is suddenly drying out. In the Spring, you may notice dulling of your complexion from the build up of dry skin cells. In the summer, you may experience break-outs from the higher humidity and sweating. Consulting a skin care specialist who can analyze your skin on the spot or during your facial treatment can help ensure that you are following the proper skin care regime for your particular needs.

Long Hair Care: Caring for Hair As It Grows Longer

If your goal is to grow your hair long, you have probably already done a bit of research on how to retain hair length by preventing breakage. You've learned that caring for longer hair requires more time AND more product. When I say "more product" I am not referring to the number of products you use, but rather to the amount of product you will need, now that you have more hair.
Let's address the issue of time: Longer hair is older hair, which means fragile hair. Even with proper care, older hair is generally more delicate than newly grown hair that's closer to the scalp and therefore, much stronger. It has been repeatedly exposed to a number of different things over time, such as sun, wind, extreme outdoor temperatures and depending on your hair care routine, dyes, heat, etc.
Longer hair can get tangled easily, so it must be gently detangled to prevent tearing and breakage. The amount of time it takes to detangle your hair depends on your hair type and length. The curlier your hair, the more time it will take to detangle. It's best to set aside time to carefully detangle your hair prior to shampooing. If you rush through the process, you will cause more tangles and breakage. Attempting to detangle hair during or after shampooing will result in more tangles that are difficult to loosen.
Another important thing to remember is the natural occurrence of shedding. Human hair grows in three distinct phases: the growth (anagen) phase lasts anywhere from 3 to 10 years. In the second (catagen) phase, which lasts about three months, the hair does not grow at all. At the end of that phase, the hair enters the final (telogen) phase of its cycle. At the end of a hair's cycle, a new hair pushes the one out of the follicle and the cycle begins again.
The hairs on your head are in a different phases at different times. Some hairs are growing, some hairs are stagnant while others have reached the end of their cycle and are shed. The average person sheds approximately 100 hairs per day.
Healthy hair, no matter what type, grows approximately ½ - ¾ inch each month. If you have difficulty growing your hair past shoulder length, chances are it's breaking off due to friction caused by clothing. This occurs when the tips/ends of the hair repeatedly rub back and forth on clothing, break off and leave behind split and frayed ends. Once you stop this breakage, you will see longer hair lengths.
To get beyond this "sticking point", you can wear your hair in styles that prevent it from brushing/rubbing against your clothing. Once your hair has reached approximately 3 to 4 inches beyond shoulder length, these protective-type styles won't be necessary any more, since the ends of your hair will fall below the friction point of the shoulders. If you don't like wearing your hair up, be mindful of the type of material your hair is rubbing against. Silk or satin scarves worn over your jacket, coat, etc. will provide a smooth surface and greatly reduce breakage due to friction.
Deep and thorough hydration (moisture) is essential for healthy, strong, break-resistant hair. You need to replenish moisture that's lost every day through evaporation. Slowing down evaporation is the simplest and most cost effective way to keep your hair hydrated. There will be no need to replace moisture if you don't lose it in the first place!
Many people believe and insist that water is the best moisturizer. I have read lots of beauty and hair care articles that advise you to use water or water based products, followed by an oil to "seal" in moisture. Based on science and personal experience, I respectfully disagree with this theory. Water wets, it does not moisturize. Water is extremely lightweight, so it evaporates rapidly.
It is impossible to seal water in through the use of oil, no matter how heavy that oil is. The best you can hope for, if you rely on water as your main source of moisture, is for the oil to reduce the time it takes your hair to dry. In that case, the water is not providing any moisture; it's just keeping your hair wet. If you must wet your hair every day because it feels dry by the days end, you are not moisturizing it properly and/or thoroughly.
I rely on organic aloe vera juice as my main source of moisture. It's heavier than water, so it evaporates at a much slower rate. It also provides nutrients to the hair to build strength and protect against breakage.
Finally, regular and routine deep conditioning strengthens the hair and increases its ability to hold onto moisture. You should use a good quality leave-in conditioner immediately following deep conditioning. This will add moisture and nutrients to the hair and improve its ability to resist breakage.
Remember, as your hair gets longer, the ends need the most attention and care. Focus your deep, daily and leave in conditioning treatments on the ends of the hair, not the healthier, younger hair that's closer to the scalp.
I hope you found this article useful. Brendita's Body Works offers restorative and repairing deep conditioning treatments and hair care accessories that are absolutely ESSENTIAL for beautiful, long and healthy hair.

Anything Worth Cooking, Is Worth Cooking Poorly

It's is true that skill is required to cook a fabulous meal in minutes. It also requires organization and prep time. As do many things in life. I think we forget how much of what comes easily for us, was once very challenging.
For me, one of the most challenging things to learn was driving. I lived on a steep hill, in a hilly neighborhood. My parents insisted that I learn to drive a stick shift. Every time I backed out of my driveway, I said a little prayer that I would not stall and accelerate backwards down the hill crashing into the creek below our house. Not far from my home, there was an intersection with a traffic light at the top of a steep hill. For years I worried about rolling back into the car behind me.
I made plenty of mistakes. I remember going to a friends house right after getting my license. I parked, rang the bell and turned around to admire my car, only to see it rolling down the street. I ran after it as fast as I could. Fumbled to get the key into the lock. And hopped in the moving car. Hit the emergency brake. No harm done.
Today, I drive an automatic. But occasionally, I still find myself behind the wheel of a stick shift car. And I know I can do it. I am no longer afraid.
I share this story to say that in order to cook well, we need to burn a few things. Cooking is a skill that we can learn like driving a car. It can also be a gift that we are born with. The more powerful gift is the time we spend together in the kitchen. Learning the type of cooking that nourishes our family not what wins awards. Although you can with practice do that too.
Cooking feeds our body, mind, and soul. It allows us to control the chemicals, pathogens and preservatives we put into our body. We know who handled our food and if they were sick or pissed off. We can choose to have a relationship with who grew, raised or caught our food.
So tonight I encourage you to connect with your family and friends over a home cooked meal, and save the money you might otherwise spend in restaurants or on processed, prepackaged foods. Believe it or not, making simple and satisfying meals from scratch doesn't have to be hard.

Why Sports are Good For You - And It's About Much More Than Keeping Fit

Sport is good for you - and it's not just about keeping fit. We already know, and we're told by many eminent people that regular exercise is good for us.
But as somebody who plays sport regularly I've learnt that it is about much more than just the physical exercise. We'll start with some widely accepted views. First doing regular exercise helps your vital organs. Getting the heart pumping, the lungs working deeply and the legs or arm muscles working hard helps improve the strength and stamina that we have. This in turn helps us fight other diseases more effectively and stay generally healthy. Also of course if you play competitive sport regularly, you are more likely to have a mental attitude which is more combative, and you will fight back.
The second key fact is that sport is a key way of losing weight or keeping weight off. Doing some exercise that leaves you breathless (no, apart from that) will ultimately help burn fat. Remember that at first it will probably hurt a bit: console yourself with the old adage "no pain, no gain." And you know the arguments about not putting on weight. Being lighter puts less strain on your muscles and your heart, so you are likely to have less pain in your joints, and a stronger heart, and you live longer!
So what else? Sport is good for your soul too. Just by playing, or taking part in an active sport often means you commit yourself to doing things at set times with other people. So if you play football, you'll need to turn up on time to train or play matches. If you play tennis, badminton or squash, you will arrange games with others. And if you go running or to the gym it is a great idea to do it with someone else. It simply makes you more committed. If you've already committed and you've had a heavy day at work and you don't really want to go out and exercise tonight, you are more likely to do it anyway if you've agreed to meet another person. I've spoken to many other people (and I experience this myself) who say that after you've taken your exercise and you've had a shower and a drink, you always feel much better, and the troubles of your day seem to melt away. It is a great mental detox. It is easier to put your troubles back in their box, and get things into proportion more. So as I said, it is good for the soul - the busier and more stressful your day, the more you need this to balance out your life.
Playing sport with another person or people also gets things into proportion for another reason too. It is easy during downtime at the end of the day to dwell on things that have happened during the day, and in these challenging times to feel down or frustrated. But you know that the other person or people don't want to hear about it - so quite simply you don't burden them with your woes. You focus on something else - hopefully something that you have in common, and which is more positive. This is a good thing for your soul, your mental condition and it helps achieve a better work life balance.
We all say we want a good work life balance but this is one easy and important part of achieving that. Here endeth the lesson! Above all, seek out things you can enjoy in life and have fun!

Goal Setting and Weight Loss

Weight loss and Goal Setting
Are you a rebound dieter? Are you constantly trying to lose weight but fail in your fitness efforts? Perhaps your weight-loss journey has just begun and you want to ensure success at the weight loss game.
Setting a solid foundation for a healthier lifestyle through weight loss takes dedication with purpose. The following six tips will maintain your motivation so you can share your success story about changing your body and how you were able to reveal the fit and fabulous you.
Importance of Goal Setting
Regardless of how you envision the better version of your body, goal setting is necessary for success. You can shrink your belly fat by increasing your metabolism and improve your health if you set attainable goals. The benefit is you will also improve the look of your body after your healthy habit become rituals.
Keep in mind, change has to happen in your mind first. Dedicate yourself to change and your actions will follow. Results will eventually be visible in a slimmer, stronger version of you.
Goal setting is important to a sustainable healthy life style. Research reveals people experience greater success if they combine long-term and short-term goals for healthy weight loss. Be reasonable with yourself and stay dedicated. This way you will stay in action long enough to see and change and gain momentum from visible results.
Guidelines for Weight Loss Goals
1. Trade in the Scale for a Measuring Tape
Trade in the scale for the measuring tape. A decrease in inches is more motivating than a decrease in the numbers on the scale. Set goals specific goals to decrease your measurements. For instance, "lose one inch from my waistline in one month". Create a body map to maintain an accurate record of progress.
A body map is a record of your measurements of your body. A body map allows you to set specific goals. Draw a simple stick figure, or you can find one online. On this stick figure record at least these four measurements: neck, waist, belly, and hips. You can add more measurements if you want to really see results one inch as a time. Record these measurements monthly on the same body map.
2. Set Appropriate Objectives
Using a fat reducing plan just for vanity's sake is less helpful psychologically than losing weight to improve health. Many people want to make changes for the reason of wearing smaller pants. This goal lacks a purposeful reason for your actions. Build your weight loss goals around meaningful reasons supported by your belief system.
Your goals must be attainable and logical with respects to your life. Your life is unique and so your plan must be tailored to your needs. Of source you must include the logical: Good nutrition and increased exercise. But the key is making every desired change one small step at a time.
Avoid intimidating yourself with goals that are out of reach. Small incremental changes developed on the foundation of purposeful reasons are more effective than lofty goals that remained dreams.
3. Focus on Doing, Not Losing
Rather than telling yourself you are going to lose 2 pounds this week, quantify the amount of time you're going to dedicate to exercise this week. Be specific down to the minutes.
Or specifically outline what exercises you will be doing and how many repetitions you'll be doing. This would definitely make up of a sensible weight loss plan. Manager activity level and focus on your actions so weight loss becomes a byproduct of your focus.
4. Make Logical Changes
Short-term weight loss plans driven by "pie-in-the-sky" goals set dieters up for failure. If you have never exercised at all, a productive action towards change is to find three different one-mile routes that you can walk this week. If you're already active and take one step up and increase the amount of activity in small increments.
For example if you already go to the gym two days a week boost your activity level to three days a week.If you try changing your habits too severely in a short time frame, you're only going to frustrate your self. This will end your efforts before you even start making an impact.
5. Keep up Self-Encouragement
An all-or-nothing attitude only sets you up to fail. Learn to judge and evaluate your efforts objectively. If you fall short of some goals, just look ahead to next week. You do not need to have a perfect record. After all, self-encouragement should definitely be a part of your weight loss plans. Otherwise, you will fall short of your goals.
Give yourself credit for the action you have taken. Increasing activity week by week is the goal. Increase your intensity in small increments and recognize your forward momentum. Recognizing your positive change will help you stay dedicated in the long run.
6. Set Quantifiable Exercise Targets
In order to maximize your efforts and reach a goal, identify specific and quantifiable actions. Stating your intention of merely improving this week is not a measurable goal. Log the time dedicated to weekly exercise. Count the number of repetition of given exercises each day. Record the foods you each at each meal. These are quantifiable.
Set a specific target such as: walk a 16 minute mile three days a week. Or include half hour Pilates sessions four times this week. Perhaps you're already active so you're already going to Zumba class twice a week, then perhaps your goal is to include one day of weight training for a half-hour. A solid weight loss plan is quantifiable. Count up the minutes of exercise and log your time.
What Does Goal Setting Mean to Weight Loss?
As in all other areas of life, if you fail to plan you plan to fail. The same is true for weight loss. If you want to boost your metabolism make sure to make a plan and get into action by incorporating your goals so you're motivated and educated to your weight-loss progress in relation to the achievable goals you set for yourself.

Everyday Cooking With a Slow Cooker

Homemakers and even the most experienced chefs will agree that slow cookers are a boon to the culinary world and food preparation in general as the cooking is done over several hours, ensuring that all the flavors are sealed into the dish, making it all the more succulent and delicious.
Why use a crock-pot when I can use an oven?
Apart from the fact that it requires minimal culinary skills and saves you a lot of time and effort,
slow cooking is the healthiest way to preserve the nutritional value of food. The cooking is done over several hours with a covered lid over medium heat so that the nutrients contained in the food remain intact.
Another major advantage of using a crock-pot is that it gives you the liberty to go about your everyday chores, without having to constantly check to see if the cooking is done. For instance if you fancy a pot roast for dinner, all you need to do is dump all the ingredients into the crock pot and allow it to cook on the low while you go to work and nine hours later, you can come home to a delectable meal.
Slow cookers save you the trouble of cleaning up after you have whipped up a hearty meal as all the cooking is confined to a lidded vessel. Now, instead of sweating it out in the kitchen, you can relegate the cooking duties to this excellent device while you watch the season finale of your favorite soap or spend time in the park with your kids.
Good Things Come To Those Who Wait
And last but not least, no other cooking medium or device can supersede the moistly succulent taste of pork or beef when cooked in a crock pot. This is due to the fact that the meat is cooked on a uniform temperature for a couple of hours, thus tenderizing the meat with its own juices and inherent flavors to create a lip smacking entrée fit for a king. So bring out that slow cooker from its retirement and infuse new life into it with a classic recipe that we have for you below:
Hash Brown Casserole
Ingredients:
• 1 cup of chopped onions
• 30 to 32 ounces of frozen shredded hash browns
• 10 3/4 ounces of condensed cream of celery soup
• 6 tbs of melted butter
• 8 ounces of light sour cream
• 10 3/4 ounces of condensed nacho cheese soup
Method:
Insert a few drops of nonstick cooking spray at the base of the crock-pot. Combine all the ingredients together in a large bowl and pour the same into the crock-pot. Cook on low for about 6 hours. Serve hot and enjoy!

Healthy Weight Loss Programs

People who are overweight and want to lose those extra pounds are most likely in search of a plan or program to follow. However, healthy weight loss programs for losing weight differ, or should anyway, from some of the more, shall we say, spirited claims for losing weight.
There are so many weight loss programs out there, they have become trivialized. And a new fad diet seems to come along every day. Every form of media serves as a marketing tool for the latest craze in weight loss or fitness. Truthfully, there are many good ones. There are also some that could be downright dangerous to your overall health.
Nothing beats common sense when choosing a program. That, and knowing yourself and what sort of changes you are willing to make. Most any good program will help an individual lose weight. The trick is sticking with the program. Remember, the process of losing weight should be about long term changes that keep the weight off for good and allow you to live a healthier life. If you go through some form of dietary torture for two months and lose 30 pounds, it is doubtful you will stick with that kind of radical change for long.
The best programs seem to be those that offer education, incremental and flexible changes in dietary consumption, varied exercise routines and long term goal setting. And, people need and want to understand the process their minds and bodies will undergo while making changes. Staying motivated is a huge issue, and the more educated a person is about nutrition and fitness or how well a particular program educates the consumer, the more likely the individual is to achieve their long term goals. This is not rocket science. It is just about being a cautious, well informed consumer.
Even among the many very good healthy weight loss programs out there, each one may have systems or variations that make them good for one person and not another. Gather as much information as you can on the program, study it, then decide if it fits you and your goals. Don't rely on someone else to influence your decision. Do the necessary research yourself. Get informed before jumping headfirst into a cloudy pool!
Most really good healthy weight loss programs have quite a bit of flexibility. It should not be too hard to find one that is right for you. As in almost all other areas, we know a great deal more today about nutrition, health and fitness. Know what you want to achieve, know what works best for you, be informed and then Go! Be happy!
